Welcome back, everyone! Today, I want to share a comprehensive update on our off-grid living journey. From the challenges of electric fencing to exciting developments in water, septic, and solar projects, there’s a lot to cover. Let’s dive into the latest happenings on our property.
Electric Fence Dilemma: Starting with our electric fence project, we’ve encountered some challenges. Despite being the fifth generation, the dry weather seems to have diminished its effectiveness. No worries, though – we’re adaptable. Plans are underway to replace it with barbed wire. A little setback won’t stop us!
Infrastructure Progress: As we walk through the property, you’ll notice the ongoing infrastructure improvements. The well is in place, delivering water with minimal issues. Water tests have been encouraging, with only a few solids to filter out. The septic system is fully operational, accommodating our temporary stays. We’re playing the waiting game for a building permit, but progress is on the horizon.
Shipping Container Transformation: We introduced a 40-foot shipping container as a secure storage solution. Currently holding our belongings, it’s destined to become a solar shed. Stay tuned as we delve into the exciting plans for converting this container into a sustainable energy hub.
Skid Steer Acquisition: In a strategic move, I traded my motorcycle for a John Deere 317 skid steer, complete with a trailer. This powerful equipment, equipped with a pallet attachment and a stump bucket, is proving invaluable. The stump bucket has been particularly handy in removing mesquite trees, an ongoing task that’s yielding positive results.
Solar Array Project: Our solar ambitions are taking shape with 24 impressive 405-watt panels awaiting deployment. Housed in the container, they’re set to become our solar array. While progress has been made, the full setup is still in the works. I’m eager to share the moment we start generating electricity from our off-grid solar system.
Brick Machine and Sustainable Living: Down the property, a surprise awaits – our brick machine! Crafting interlocking bricks, it’s a crucial component of our sustainable living plan. In addition, two inverters are in place, initiating the setup for a battery system. Follow along as we document the progress of these exciting initiatives.
Conclusion: Thanks for joining us on this off-grid living adventure update. As we tackle challenges and make strides toward sustainable living, we appreciate your support. Stay tuned for more detailed updates on our water filtration system, solar array setup, and the ongoing transformation of our shipping container. Until next time – go Chico go! Thanks for watching!
