Transforming Wilderness: Clearing Our Property with a Skid Steer – Part 2

Welcome back, everyone! In part two of our property transformation journey, I’ll take you through the challenges we faced in clearing thick brush and how we overcame them with some serious reinforcements. If you missed part one, you can catch up here…

The Challenge of Overgrown Land: The first time my wife and I attempted to clear our property, using basic tools proved to be a significant challenge. The dense brush and stubborn mesquite bushes made the task nearly impossible. Determined to make a difference, I decided to sell my motorcycle and invest in a trailer and skid steer. This decision turned out to be a game-changer in our property clearing endeavors.

Investing in Serious Reinforcement: I purchased a skid steer from a rental fleet, making me the third owner. This powerful equipment was a necessity, considering the daunting task ahead. In this part of the journey, you’ll see how the skid steer became our ally in tackling the thick vegetation on our property.

Tag Teaming the Clearing Process: My wife and I tag-teamed the project, with me operating the skid steer and her assisting in clearing smaller debris and cleaning up. It was hard work, but having the right equipment made all the difference. We managed to clear significant portions of the land, leaving us with a sense of accomplishment.

The Importance of the Skid Steer: Driving the skid steer was a new experience for me. The lack of suspension made it a bit challenging, but the efficiency it brought to the clearing process far outweighed the discomfort. The skid steer allowed us to navigate through the dense brush, creating paths where there were none before.

Creating Access to the Property: When we initially bought the property, there was no road leading to it. We could only reach about a quarter mile from our property. With the help of the skid steer, we not only cleared space on our property but also created access. This improvement allowed us to drive onto our property without the previous challenges.

Aerial Views and Progress: I borrowed a drone to capture aerial shots of our progress. These shots, soon to be featured in a video, showcase the transformation from impassable brush to cleared spaces. The skid steer made such a difference that we could now turn around on our property without the hassle of backing down a narrow road with a trailer.

Learning and Adapting: Admittedly, I had never driven a skid steer before this project. Learning to operate it on the spot was both challenging and exciting. The stump bucket I invested in, a Titan Stump Bucket, proved to be a valuable tool for extracting mesquite trees. Despite the initial learning curve, the efficiency and results were well worth it.

Conclusion: As we continue our property clearing journey, one thing is clear – investing in the right equipment, like the skid steer, can turn a daunting task into a manageable one. Stay tuned for more updates on our property transformation. Thanks for joining us on this adventure!

Came back with some reinforcements. I got me a John Deere Skid Steer with a Titan Stump Bucket. Got a road cleared to get the trailer on next time.
